Client: This 123 bed facility on the North Shore of Massachusetts with an average Medicare Part A daily census of 13 – 15 patients and a therapy department with 5 FTE’s across all disciplines. The Medicare Part A revenue topped out at $170,000.00 with a Medicare Part A rate of $357.59.
Issue: The facility set a goal of increasing the Medicare Part A census to 25 – 30 ppd and a goal for the Medicare Part A rate of $480.00.
Outcome: In addition to the Harmony monthly site visits to review the Medicare Part A caseload and make recommendations for improved program management, a Harmony consultant was assigned to conduct weekly visits with the Rehab manager to assist with managing the rapidly growing needs of the Medicare Part A program in this building. Harmony assisted the building in calculating the necessary full time equivalent staff members the Therapy department would need to add to manage the patient treatments. In addition, Harmony trained all existing and new staff in regards to Medicare Coverage Criteria guidelines as well as Rehab case management techniques for the intense case loads this building. This specialize project resulted in regularly scheduled meetings with the therapy staff to provide clarity on industry related issues and assist with Rehab case management of the Medicare Part A and Part B caseload.
As a result of the Harmony training provided to this building the facility now boasts with the Medicare Part A census at an average of 27ppd, the total Medicare Part A revenue at $422,119.56, and the Medicare Part A daily rate at $517.94.
